| บทคัดย่อโครงการ | This research was conducted 1) to explore tour guides’ needs concerning English competency in the marine tourism sector in Sikao District, Trang Province, 2) to identify the topics required to improve the English skills of local marine tourism guides to reach international standards. The participants of this study comprised 40 local tour guides from marine tourism agencies in Sikao District, Trang Province. The data was designed to implement the information collected from the questionnaire to be used as research instrument. The data analysis was performed by using percentage, and mean evaluation. Findings revealed that listening and speaking skills were of high importance to their professional. The research also showed that the most important English language skills needed were giving details about tour itinerary, followed by answering questions about tourist attractions and listening to tourists’ enquiries. In addition, the topics needed by tour guides to improve English language skills were welcoming tourists/greetings, giving introductions, giving information about tourist attractions, and listening and responding to tourists enquiries in various contexts. Also, they indicated that they needed to attend an English training course via online digital learning platforms such as YouTube. To conclude, the results proved useful in designing a short business English training course and development of tour guide English competency in the marine tourism industry in the Andaman region of Trang Province.
